Preventing drowning and Injury at Fitzroy
beach. 'Proactive', the key word that makes Surf Life Saving
unique, as an essential service. Fitzroy SLSC is not a reactive
rescue service activated by call outs. Each weekend our
beach patrols set out the red and yellow flags to show the safest
place to swim. We train new Lifeguard's how to identify potential
victims and potential dangers. We work with the public to prevent
people getting in trouble, first. That's why last summer we
performed over 2,141 preventative actions during 1,396 hours of
beach patrols.
To become a Lifeguard, the 'entry level' qualification is the
Surf Lifeguard Award. We're committed to ongoing learning within
Surf Life Saving too, whether you're 5 or 70. From lifesaving,
first aid, coaching and instruction, to leadership, teamwork and
communication, our training will stand you in good stead for the
rest of your life.
Fitzroy Surf Life Saving Club is a team of ordinary New Plymouth
people doing extraordinary things.
Patrols for the 2011/12 summer are due to start on Nov
